The pace of change in military communications has never been greater, particularly focusing on spectrum management in high-intensity hostile areas. PnC Calc enables field-operatives to pass site candidates surveyed in the field to HQ for further analysis, before revision and return to the field for implementation. Both hardware and software facilitate this flexibility, enabling military planners to operate in every environment.
The software has a very simple user interface demanding the minimum of technical data and may be pre loaded with site and equipment data making data input even quicker. The tool’s primary use is to analyse point to point links and area coverage predictions in the VHF/UHF/SHF frequency range.
For radio path profiles the software extracts a terrain elevation profile and computes associated path loss metrics and path budget. A report is created giving the terrain clearance with detail of the most sensitive point on the path and available fade margin.
Coverage plots are produced by computing the transmission loss between a mobile radio base station transmitter and a mobile or handheld receiver. A radio coverage footprint is plotted relating received signal power to locations covered on the ground or in the air.
